Ivory’s Quest, Coyote Callie, Vanessa in Dreamland

Area 33 Posted on 29 June 2021 by Whycocomagh2 April 2022

VAN HELSING – Thoughts on the end of Season Five – SPOILERS

Jennifer Cheon Garcia

Ivory takes one last look back before heading out in search of the remaining Sisterhood

Callie (Macie Juiles), who was rescued from Seattle’s vampire-infested streets by Vanessa and Mohamed (Trezzo Mahoro) in Episode 1.4, and turned up (sometimes unexpectedly) in nine other episodes, is alive and well and making a living smuggling people into (and probably out of) vampire territory. We had not seen Callie since she was among those left behind in Denver after it was overrun by daywalkers in Episode 4.1. In that episode, Hansen (Neal McDonough) ordered the remaining human population destroyed by poison gas to prevent their being turned. Callie must have somehow survived that.

We meet Callie as she delivers Ivory (Jennifer Cheon-Garcia) into the badlands outside of the Wall that protects D.C. from the vampires and poison clouds beyond. Ivory has told a tearful Jack (Nicole Muñoz) that she must embark on a solo quest to find and assist the remaining sisterhood, whether they be vampire or human. (Jack promised to wait for her.) After saying goodbye to Callie, Ivory draws her sword and strides purposefully toward an unidentified city in the distance (and hopefully into a spinoff). Continue reading →

The Unfortunate Demise of Boots the Cat

Area 33 Posted on 19 June 2021 by Whycocomagh2 April 2022

THE REST OF US – Directed by Aisling Chin-Yee – Written by Alanna Francis – SPOILERS

Aster and her boyfriend Nathan (Charlie Gilespie) with the unfortunate Boots at the vet

It all begins with the death of a cat. The cat is named Boots and after sustaining injuries of an unspecified nature he is put down by the vet. Cami (Heather Graham) and Aster (Sophie Nélisse) decide to phone Craig (Aster’s dad and Cami’s ex) because he was so fond of the cat. They learn from Rachel (Jodi Balfour) — Craig’s second wife for whom he left Cami some years previously — that Craig had a heart attack and drowned in the tub. Soon Cami and Aster are attending a wake for Aster’s departed dad, and the unfortunate cat is never mentioned again. Continue reading →

Aztecs, The Sisterhood, and Agent Orange

Area 33 Posted on 14 June 2021 by Whycocomagh2 April 2022

VAN HELSING – Episodes 5.4 & 5.5 – SPOILERS

Caroline Cave and Rukiya Bernard

Doc (aka Dr. Sarah Carol) and Jolene are reunited after a considerable time apart.

In “State of the Union” (Episode 5.4) Doc (Rukiya Bernard) is able to cure Axel and Julius of the effects of the orange chemical cloud they ran into at the end of Season Four. (Doc created a substance that kills daywalkers but the army decided to deploy it before testing was complete, and quickly found out that it kills both daywalkers and humans (except when it turns certain vampires into giant, nearly invulnerable mutants). Julius (Aleks Paunovic) refers to the stuff as Agent Orange, so it probably is an intended historical reference to that. Axel tells Doc that Jolene (Caroline Cave) is still alive and that he knows where she is. Doc immediately retires from the war against vampires (after providing the boys with bullets coated with the orange stuff) and sends them on their way. Then she heads directly to the appropriately named Loveland (about 15 miles to the South) where she reunites with Jolene, whom she met in Episode 2.2, but hadn’t seen since Episode 3.9. Doc and Jolene are the second couple on VAN HELSING to survive The Rising. The first was Flesh (Vincent Gale) and his wife Jennifer (Holly Elissa), who reunited in Episode 4.6. Continue reading →
