Hannah John-Kamen<\/strong><\/a> (Dutch\/Aneela**) stars as Maya<\/b> in Jon Wright’s horror feature UNWELCOME<\/a>, about a London couple (Jamie, played by Douglas Booth is the other half of it) who are gifted a beautiful property in a remote corner of Ireland, and go there to live. Maya is very pregnant. Once there, their new neighbours are less than supportive, and the couple hear stories of mysterious creatures (Redcaps) who dwell at the foot of their new garden. Maya and Jamie are warned to leave a “blood offering” each evening to appease them. (In Irish lore, Redcaps, so named for their habit of soaking their caps in their victims’ blood, will come when called to help those in extreme need, but they exact a high price in payment for their assistance.) UNWELCOME can be streamed on AMC+ and SHUDDER<\/a>.<\/p>\n

John-Kamen is also Jill Valentine<\/b>, a member of STARS (Special Tactics And Rescue Service), in WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY<\/a>, the 7th film in the Resident Evil series. Director Wright<\/a>, who co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Stay, told Sophie Butcher of Empire<\/a>: “You can have somebody say they\u2019re a pacifist but, in reality,<\/em> [they] would commit a terrible act of violence to protect their family. That\u2019s why Hannah\u2019s character is pregnant. That\u2019s ultimately who she\u2019s defending. Hannah really has star quality and every day on set I\u2019d be properly blown away by her. It\u2019s a nuanced and layered performance.”<\/em> Others in the cast are Colm Meany and Kristian Nairn. <\/p>\n

**<\/b>Dutch – Killjoy #1 – a trained assassin of unknown origin, who will meet, in the course of the series, her not-quite-evil, almost twin, Aneela. (Not quite like Helena and Sarah from ORPHAN BLACK)<\/span> <\/p>\n

Aaron Ashmore<\/strong><\/a> (John Jaqobis**) is Chief Pilot William “Wheezer” Heaseman on SKYMED, a CBC and Paramount+ series created by Julie Puckrin<\/strong><\/a> (who wrote three episodes of KILLJOYS), about the adventures of nurses and pilots flying air ambulances in remote areas of Northern Canada. Filmed in Manitoba and Ontario, the show was inspired by the real-life experiences of Puckrin’s sister and brother-in-law, who met while flying air ambulances in the north. SKYMED can be streamed on Paramount+<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Luke MacFarlane and Heather Hemmens<\/a> in the Hallmark movie CHRISTMAS IN MY HEART<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n

Luke MacFarlane<\/strong><\/a> (D’Avin Jaqobis**) co-stars with Billy Eichner in BROS, a comedy about two gay men with commitment issues who just might be stumbling toward love. It is the first LGBTQ+ romantic comedy from a major studio (Universal) and also the first film to feature an entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast playing all roles including heterosexual ones. Eichner, who also wrote the screenplay, said in a statement: \u201cAfter queer actors have spent decades watching straight actors capitalize both artistically and professionally by playing LGBTQ+ characters, it is a long overdue dream come true to be able to assemble this remarkable, hilarious cast. And while \u2018Bros\u2019 may be the first of its kind in several ways, my real hope is that it is only the first of many opportunities for openly LGBTQ+ ensembles to shine.”<\/em> Filmed in Cranford, New Jersey, BROS can be streamed on Peacock<\/a>.<\/p>\n

MacFarlane is also James<\/b> in the romantic comedy SINGLE ALL THE WAY, in which Peter<\/em> (Michael Urie) convinces his best friend Nick<\/em> (Philemon Chambers) to join him for the holidays and pretend they’re in a relationship. (His family disapproves of his perpetual single status.) Peter’s mom throws a wrench into the plan by setting Pete up on a blind date with her trainer James<\/em> (MacFarlane). SINGLE ALL THE WAY can be streamed on Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tamsen McDonough<\/strong><\/a> (Lucy**) is Mrs. Zellman<\/b> in Rachel Talalay<\/a>‘s comic fantasy A BABYSITTER’S GUIDE TO MONSTER HUNTING<\/a>, a film based on the trilogy of books by Joe Ballarini<\/a> (who also wrote the screenplay). Mrs. Zellman’s son Jacob (Ian Ho<\/em>) is kidnapped by the Boogeymen on Halloween night while in the care of babysitter Kelly Ferguson (Tamara Smart). Ferguson is then recruited into a secret society of children-protecting babysitters, and discovers that an entire world of monsters exists, which she must fight. Directed by Rachel Talalay<\/a>, A BABYSITTER’S GUIDE TO MONSTER HUNTING can be streamed on Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rob Stewart<\/strong><\/a> (Khylen**) is Ava’s husband Matthew<\/b> in A GRAND ROMANTIC GESTURE, the story of Ava (Gina McKee<\/em>), who is forced by cutbacks into early retirement. Matthew and her pregnant daughter (Rose Reynolds) want Ava to take a cooking class to prepare for becoming a grandmother. She signs up for a drama class instead, is cast as Juliet, and finds herself falling in love with her Romeo (played by Douglas Hodge<\/a>, who starred in Carr-Wiggin’s last film, THE BET). Written and directed by Joan Carr-Wiggin<\/a>, A GRAND ROMANTIC GESTURE was filmed in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. It can be streamed on TUBI<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mayko Nguyen<\/strong><\/a> (Delle Seyah Kendry**) is Mary Hutton<\/b> in Mark O’Brien’s psychological horror thriller THE RIGHTEOUS, the story of a former priest, Frederic (Henry Czerny<\/em>) and his wife, Ethel (Mimi Kuzyk<\/a>), a couple mourning the loss of their adopted child. When they\u2019re visited in the middle of the night by an injured stranger (O’Brien), Frederic sees this as a opportunity for atonement, allowing the stranger to charm his way into their lives. Reviewer Stephen Saito, writing for The Moveable Fest<\/a> said: “the trappings are classical in ‘The Righteous’ with its organ-infused score and chiaroscuro lighting, but the central idea of it is subversively modern when the notion of an otherworldly pull can move in two directions, not exactly framed as a battle between good and evil, but as a some sort of spiritual equilibrium.”<\/em> THE RIGHTEOUS won best screenplay (O’Brien wrote that as well) at both Grimmfest 2021<\/a> and Fantasia Film Festival<\/a>. The episode begins with Frankie (Lauren Lee Smith<\/a>) witnessing a man’s murder, and her search for the victim’s lady-friend suspect (Allison) leads her to an underground cabaret. Patrick Garrow<\/strong> (Turin) also appears in the episode as Detective Harvey Lyle<\/a>.
