The first thing we see her do is fend off an attack by two less scrupulous scavs, <strong>Nigel<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/superstarsbio.com\/bios\/johann-vermaak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johann Vermaak<\/a>) and <strong>Carl<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apm.co.za\/artiste\/antony-c-hyde-1088\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anthony C Hyde<\/a>), who have her at gunpoint but decide to gloat over her apparent helplessness instead of simply shooting her and taking what they want. <strong>Elida<\/strong> (that is her <em>nom de guerre<\/em>) seems to derive great satisfaction from killing them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30611\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/revisiting-gem-garrards-vagrant-queen\/alex-mcgregor-tim-rozon-vagrant-queen\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-30611\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30611\" src=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/alex-mcgregor-tim-rozon-Vagrant-Queen-350x197.webp\" alt=\"Alex McGregor as Amae and Tim Rozon as Isaac - Vagrant Queen\" width=\"350\" height=\"197\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-30611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/alex-mcgregor-tim-rozon-Vagrant-Queen-350x197.webp 350w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/alex-mcgregor-tim-rozon-Vagrant-Queen-775x436.webp 775w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/alex-mcgregor-tim-rozon-Vagrant-Queen-250x141.webp 250w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/alex-mcgregor-tim-rozon-Vagrant-Queen-768x432.webp 768w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/alex-mcgregor-tim-rozon-Vagrant-Queen.webp 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-30611\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Amae<\/strong> and <strong>Isaac<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The series has a strong but lighthearted horror element. <a href=\"https:\/\/danishkaesterhazy.com\/?page_id=114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" >Danishka Esterhazy<\/a>, who directs the third and fourth episodes, also directed &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Banana_Splits_Movie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Banana Splits Movie<\/a>&#8220;, which has a similar approach to horror.  All ten episodes of the series were written and directed by women.  <\/p>\n<p>Elida\/Eldaya doesn\u2019t want to be Queen, and enjoys doing what she does. In her travels she has acquired two accomplices. <strong>Isaac<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tim_Rozon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Rozon<\/a>) is from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oak_Bluff,_Manitoba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oak Bluff<\/a>, just outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba.  His wife <strong>Hannah<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mishqah_Parthiephal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mishqah Parthiephal<\/a>) was about to give birth, and Isaac was on <em>Runabout 33<\/em> near a storage facility orbiting Jupiter.  It is unclear exactly what happened but something emanating from the storage facility killed the runabout&#8217;s pilot and sent the craft into a wormhole that terminated some three million light years away in another galaxy. Isaaac is marooned because people there could no longer travel between galaxies. Her favourite expletive is <em>\u201cOh, my crackers.\u201d<\/em>  Amae has a brother who tends bar on <em>Xija Station<\/em>. The second episode is titled \u201cYippie Ki Yay\u201d (from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Die_Hard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Die Hard<\/a>). Episode Five is called \u201cTemple of Doom\u201d (from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indiana_Jones_and_the_Temple_of_Doom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first Indiana Jones film<\/a>) and includes some unmistakably <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dune_(franchise)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dune<\/a>-like creatures. \u201cNo Clue\u201d (Episode 8) is one long homage to Jonathan Lynn\u2019s 1985 film &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Clue_(film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clue<\/a>&#8220;, and there is a scene in the seventh episode that strongly brings to mind Tim Burton\u2019s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/spoilertown.com\/big-fish-2003\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Fish<\/a>&#8220;. The combined efforts of Amae and Isaac to flee the rat people by crossing between buildings on a board might remind some people of 10 year-old Sara Crewe&#8217;s escape from boarding school in &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.levinson.com\/a-little-princess\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Little Princess<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>In episode two, Isaac and Elida&#8217;s ship The Winnipeg needs refueling and the its crew must survive the perils of <em>Planet Griebos<\/em> (Dutch for &#8220;flu forest&#8221;).  <a href=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/revisiting-gem-garrards-vagrant-queen\/spaceship-winnipeg-vagarant-queen-102\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Winnipeg<\/a> is a <em>Troezan model 5900<\/em> and runs on gasoline.  Amae meets an underemployed <em>S82K<\/em> robot which she describes as \u201c<em>a highly advanced AI pairing system<\/em>\u201d and calls Griebos <em>&#8220;a rainforest turned dumping ground after the Narrows War.\u201d<\/em>  Elida brings a <a href=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/revisiting-gem-garrards-vagrant-queen\/winniebot-vagrant-queen\/\" target=\"_blank\">the S82k, a cube on wheels<\/a>, onboard as a gift for Amae, who names it <em>Winnibot<\/em>. One is never given cause to doubt his insanity, but his backstory makes him an understandable villain, and one gets the impression that he manages to accidentally do some good, even while pursuing his evil ends.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Rozon told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.overstreetaccess.com\/tim-rozon-gives-tour-of-vagrant-queens-galaxy-to-schitts-creek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Overstreet Access<\/a>:  <em>&#8220;&#8230;my favorite scene would have to be when we\u2019re on a train and we kind of get lost together and its Amae and Isaac together. The &#8216;not heroes&#8217; together \u2013 because you know Elida\u2019s going to get things done on her end. But whenever Amae and Isaac got together, I was always like &#8216;How are they going to get out of this?&#8217; You know? We got off the train and we\u2019re in the woods and we have this beautiful scene where Amae tells Isaac how she feels about Elida&#8230;Just how accepting and happy Isaac is in that moment for her. I just remember, as soon as we said cut, I looked at Alex McGregor and said, &#8216;You killed that scene, that was awesome, you were really good. You had me, I was dead, as Isaac. Shortly after that, his brother Finn disappears, and no one but Sam remembers that Finn ever existed. R L STINE&#8217;S PUMPKINHEAD can be <a href=\"https:\/\/tubitv.com\/movies\/100046939\/r-l-stine-s-pumpkinhead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">streamed on TUBI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><center>All episodes of VAGRANT QUEEN can be <a href=\"https:\/\/tubitv.com\/series\/300009262\/vagrant-queen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" >streamed on TUBI<\/a>.
