We had not seen Callie since she was among those left behind in Denver after it was overrun by <em> daywalkers<\/em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denofgeek.com\/tv\/van-helsing-season-4-episode-1-review-dark-destiny\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Episode 4.1<\/a>.  In that episode, <strong>Hansen<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/neal_mcdonough\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neal McDonough<\/a>) ordered the remaining human population destroyed by poison gas to prevent their being turned. Callie must have somehow survived that.<\/p>\n<p>We meet Callie as she delivers <strong>Ivory<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/jennifercheongarcia\/?hl=en\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jennifer Cheon-Garcia<\/a>) into the badlands outside of the Wall that protects D.C. from the vampires and poison clouds beyond.  Ivory has told a tearful <strong>Jack<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nicolemunoz94\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nicole Mu\u00f1oz<\/a>) that she must embark on a solo quest to find and assist the remaining sisterhood, whether they be vampire or human. (Jack promised to wait for her.) After saying goodbye to Callie, Ivory draws her sword and strides purposefully toward an unidentified city in the distance (and hopefully into a spinoff). <\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21291\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/ivorys-quest-coyote-callie-vanessa-in-dreamland\/macie_juiles_vanhelsing_513\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21291\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21291\" src=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/macie_juiles_vanhelsing_513-350x288.webp\" alt=\"Macie Juiles as Callie - Van Helsing 513\" width=\"350\" height=\"288\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/macie_juiles_vanhelsing_513-350x288.webp 350w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/macie_juiles_vanhelsing_513-607x500.webp 607w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/macie_juiles_vanhelsing_513-243x200.webp 243w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/macie_juiles_vanhelsing_513-768x632.webp 768w, https:\/\/areathirtythree.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/macie_juiles_vanhelsing_513.webp 850w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-21291\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Callie<\/strong> watches as Ivory departs.  &#8220;See you down the road,&#8221; she says, perhaps prophetically<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During her stay in the Dark Realm, <strong>Vanessa<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kellyaoverton\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kelly Overton<\/a>) acquired several new abilities:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> the ability to create a force field that can absorb the inertia of bullets and then redirect it.  She stops the White House guards&#8217; bullets with something like the <em>Slow Zone<\/em> on The Expanse, and then throws them back at their source.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> telekenesis.  She snaps the necks of another batch of guards remotely after giving them a  <em>Dr. Who<\/em> style &#8220;last chance to give up&#8221; warning.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> the ability to create vortices that act as portals in time and space. She joins her mind to Bathory&#8217;s mind and is able to absorb and contain Bathory&#8217;s madness.  (Bathory is still unable to overcome the influence of the Dark One and commits suicide.)  Vanessa also joins minds with Axel (in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thathashtagshow.com\/2021\/06\/14\/review-van-helsing-s05e09-the-doorway\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Episode 5.9<\/a>) and gets a full description of local vampire leader Nina.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> the ability to create a glamour spell strong enough to deceive the Dark One.  The <u>best of all the scenes<\/u> in these final episodes involve the interactions between <strong>Dracula<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/officialtriciahelfer\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tricia Helfer<\/a>) and <strong>Vanessa-masquerading-as-Nina<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/aliliebert\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ali Liebert<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p>When the Dark One realizes she is losing the battle with the Van Helsings, she casts a spell changing all humans into vampires (except for Van Helsings and those bitten by them).  The spell is reversed once Vanessa inhales the Dark One (whose natural form seems to be a cloud of black smoke) whom she has forced out of Olivia with magical incantations absorbed from Bathory. At his own request, Axel is assigned to care for the sleeping Vanessa once again, and we are shown that in her dream she is reunited with Susan and Dylan in her old Seattle apartment.  <\/p>\n<p>Van Helsing saliva is a cure for vampirism, but it is not a vaccine.  Vice President <strong>Eli Newton<\/strong> (Peter Bryant) is bitten by Jack to prove that she is not a vampire trying to trick him.  When he does not turn, he believes her.
