No Kid Hungry

Sarah Michelle Gellar - No Kid Hungry

Gellar is a celebrity partner of NO KID HUNGRY, a program to bring healthy school breakfasts to children across the US. She explained to Parade Magazine how she became involved: "I started to read about Urban Hunger and the studies and statistics about how many children go hungry. Something like four out of five children are hungry at some point. I thought–that’s not possible. And then I started to read about No Kid Hungry and I learned a term that really frightened me–Suburban Hunger. Right now the kids living right next door to you might be going hungry."

Sarah Michelle Gellar has appeared in two theatrical productions. In 1986 she was Molly in the Horton Foote play, "The Widow Claire". She played another Molly (Mollie at age 13) in 1990 in the Neil Simon play, "Jake's Women", but the show closed out of town after a trial run in San Diego. When Simon decided to do the play again in 1992, Gellar was the wrong age for the part and Brenda Vaccaro took the role.

The New York Times had this to say about The Widow Claire: "In keeping with his writing habits of four decades, the author of "The Trip to Bountiful" and "Tender Mercies" whisks us into the fictional small Texas town of Harrison and sets his characters about their diurnal business. "The Widow Claire," a 95-minute anecdote in one act, describes only a single long summer night of 1911. Horace Robedaux (Matthew Broderick), a poor but ambitious 21-year-old about to enroll in a six-week business course in Houston, spends the eve of his departure courting the title character (Hallie Foote), a 27-year-old widow with several suitors and two rambunctious kids. Daybreak brings Horace's leave-taking and an exchange of farewells so formal one might wonder whether the couple had in fact stolen a few chaste kisses under the new moon of the night before."

Mystery Mid-90s Pilot

The above photo was posted on SMG's Instagram with this note: "Since I was a child, I have been obsessed with the musical #Chess. Over 20 years ago, on a pilot presentation (for a show based on a not so successful movie for a small network most people didn’t know) I bonded with another actor over our mutual love of this musical. I even confided in him, that in my very first ice skating competition , I skated to "One Night in Bangkok" (I came in third) Well now it’s 20 years later, and that actor - @strongdanny rewrote the book to #chessmusical and I had the honor to sit in the audience and watch his incredible version. And I was blown away. It exceeded any expectation. The book was moving, and timely and funny. The actors were so incredible. And I got to share the experience with my daughter. Dreams do come true (also for six degrees- that same song was originally sung by #murrayhead the brother of another actor on that very same pilot presentation - #anthonyhead"

Quantum Quest - A Cassini Space Odyssey

2004-A Light Knight's Odyssey - video thumbnail

The character Rayna in the educational science fiction adventure film "2004: A Light Knight's Odyssey" was originally voiced by Gellar. The film was made by NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, but in 2008 the script was rewritten to include discoveries made by the Cassini Huygens mission to Saturn, and Gellar was too busy to voice her character. She was replaced by Amanda Peet and the character was renamed Ranger. The new version of the film was released 13 January 2010 with the new title: QUANTUM QUEST: A CASSINI SPACE ODYSSEY.
