THE LOCATION OF SWANS CROSSING

Barry Papick and Larry Attile - The Baldies
The Baldies

Most of the evidence relating to the town's location comes from J.T. Adams, Neil Atwater, their attempts to produce a revolutionary rocket fuel, and their interation with foreign spies.

J.T. and Neil are working on a self-perpetuating rocket fuel they call UB2B. In order for them to obtain the necessary materials for their research, they create the fictitious Professor Vann who can order things without drawing attention. Data from Neil and J.T.'s experiments is accidentally leaked onto the internet by J.T.'s sister Katie, and this draws spies to Swans Crossing.

Two British agents (referred to as The Anglos) track Professor Vann's shipments to Swans Crossing. Anglo #1 at one point masquerades as Dr. Lamb at Swans Crossing General Hospital to spy on a sick Neil Atwater. Anglo #1 also likes the music of Queen, and Swan Soda Shop's All-American Cheese Sandwich. The Anglos were portrayed by Seth Jones and Craig Wroe.

The Baldies hail from the (fictional) nation of Rodavia, and are portrayed by Larry Attile, Barry Papick, and sometimes Gary Goodrow. They worked with a hooded man (Rick Segal), a masked man (Jim Dratfield), and a snake handler. Jazz found Baldie #1 sleeping on a bench. At the Old Walker Estate that same Baldie spoke to a man he called "Pegasus". The man carried a boa constrictor around his neck.

The computer The Baldies use is an IBM PS/2 Model 50, which came out in 1987. It was a PS/2, with the Intel 80286 processor (12.5 Mhz - 16 bit). The PS/2 introduced the Micro Channel bus, VGA graphics and the 3.5 inch floppy disk. A map displayed on that computer identifies the location of Swans Crossing to be near Providence, Rhode Island. (In episodes 10 and 11, Mila falls in the water and is saved from drowning. Coach Gromme said that there was hope for her survival because of the cool water. It was July 4. The average water temperature off Providence, RI in July is 19.8° C.)

Part of an envelope sent to Professor Vann, the personna used by Neil and J.T. to disguise their scientific activities, is shown in the show. Note the zip code (which I have enlarged). The zip code on the envelope is a New York City zip. The name Professor Vann was derived from one Stevie Vann, a third grade classmate of Neil and J.T. who thought he was smarter than J.T. and was nicknamed "professor".
