Rachel Nichols (Kiera Cameron*) is Madeleine, eldest daughter of Charles Abernathy (Bob Gunton), and twin sister of C.J. (David Walton) in THE INHERITANCE, a horror thriller directed by Alejandro Brugués. Charles, a billionaire nearing his 75th birthday, unexpectedly invites his estranged children back home. He tells them to come alone, but one son (Drew, played by Austin Stowell) brings a friend named Hannah along. When they get there, Charles explains that the questionable things he has done to ensure the family’s success have caught up with him and an unknown someone plans to kill him before morning. Their inheritances, they are told, will be forfeit should Charles not survive the night. THE INHERITANCE can be streamed on HULU.

Victor Webster (Carlos Fonnegra*) is Prosecuting Attorney Chad Norton in the ninth Hannah Swensen Mystery: ONE BAD APPLE. After Hannah (Alison Sweeney) is asked to teach a baking class, her equipment is tampered with, causing an explosion. The blast is ruled an accident, but soon a colleague is found dead and Hannah suspects the two events might be connected. While investigating, she encounters resistance from Lake Eden’s by-the-book prosecuting attorney Chad. Directed by Shannon Kohli and written by Allison Sweeney and Joanne Fluke, ONE BAD APPLE can be streamed on Hallmark+ (via Amazon Prime Video).

Janet Kidder (Ann Sadler*) is Pam in A BROTHER’S BOND, a family drama directed by Braydon Langford. In order to satisfy the conditions of their late father’s will, two brothers (Derek Anderson and Jeff Evans-Todd) embark on a series of adventures together. A BROTHER’S BOND will have its Canadian premiere at the Three Fires International Film Festival in Bracebridge, Ontario on Thursday 10 October at 7:30pm.
Kidder is also Jeanne, a senior case worker with Child Protective Services, in the six-episode miniseries LITTLE BIRD. The story centres on a First Nations woman (Darla Contois) who was adopted into a Jewish family during the Sixties Scoop as she attempts to reconnect with her birth family and heritage. LITTLE BIRD was created by Jennifer Podemski and Hannah Moscovitch. It can be streamed on Crave TV, and on APTN Luni.

Jennifer Spence (Betty Robertson*) is Chelsea Nakamura in THE TRADES, a half-hour comedy starring Rob Wells and Anastasia Phillips as refinery employees living in a small Nova Scotia town. Creator Ryan J. Lindsay told Debra Yeo of The Toronto Star that the show was inspired by stories his brothers (a pipefitter and a carpenter) told at family dinners and get-togethers. “They would have us all in stitches,” he said. “I knew there was a concept there.” THE TRADES airs on Crave TV in Canada, and has been renewed for a second season. Spence tweeted on 10 June: “From our hearts to yours, THANK YOU for watching #TheTrades and making it the #1 Canadian show on @CraveCanada this year! We cannot wait to bring you season 2.”

Richard Harmon and Bella Thorne in Scott Speer’s horror/mystery I STILL SEE YOU
Richard Harmon (Julian Randol*) is Vern in LOWLIFES, a horror feature directed by Tesh Guttikonda and Mitch Oliver. The survival instincts of a road-tripping family (Matthew MacCaull, Amanda Fix, and Elyse Levesque), are put to the test when they find themselves guests of The Clearys, (Brenna Llewellyn, Cassandra Sawtel, and Kevin McNulty). Writing for Saturday at the Movies, Jeffrey X Martin called the film “a piercing study of family dynamics, class privilege, and tragic errors caused by preconceived notions” and went on to say that “Lowlifes is as much of a demented sociological case study as a backwoods gorefest.” The film can be streamed on TUBI.
*-Julian Randol (aka Theseus) is Alec Sandler’s stepbrother, and the eventual leader of the anti-corporate rebellion of which Liber8 is a part.

Terry Chen (Curtis Chen*) stars as a gambling addict named Lucky in LUCKY STAR. In this slice-of-life description of a Chinese-Canadian family, Lucky has settled down in Calgary with a mortgage, wife, and two daughters. His electronics repair shop is in financial trouble. Then he falls for a tax scam, forcing him to return to the card tables in an effort to recover his losses. Meanwhile, his wife (Olivia Cheng) and his oldest daughter Grace (Conni Miu) are busy dealing with their own personal dilemmas. LUCKY STAR can be purchased from Amazon Prime Video.
Chen is also Agent Feng in THE UNRESTRICTED WAR, a film by Yan Ma which stars Dylan Bruce as Jim, a Canadian virologist leading a biotech venture in China. Stephen Lobo (Matthew Kellog*) is Owen in the science fiction sports drama BALESTRA. Competitive fencer Joanna Bathory (Cush Jumbo) tests an experimental device that allows her to train within lucid dreams while asleep. While in the dream state, she meets Elliot (Manny Jacinto), a fantasy lover she has kept tucked away in her subconscious. About to be executed by the corporate state in the year 2077, members of the revolutionary organization Liber8 contrive to escape into the past. Vancouver Police Protector Kiera Cameron who is supervising the execution is inadvertently brought with them to 2012. She must decide whether she should prevent alterations to the timeline to preserve the future she remembers, or if she should take the opportunity to change history for the better so the conditions that caused her trip to the past never develop. CONTINUUM, created by Simon Barry, is a cautionary tale about the encroachment of corporate influence on people’s everyday lives. All 42 episodes can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
