What the Cast of Killjoys is Doing Now (Part Two)
Alanna Bale (**The Lady in 9 episodes) is Jasmine and Atticus Mitchell (Pippin Foster in 11 episodes) is Rob in LUNE, a film set in 1994 Toronto that focuses on Miriam (Aviva Armour-Ostroff) and her bipolar disorder. Miriam is a South African born Jew who spent years fighting apartheid and is eager to return to South Africa to vote for Nelson Mandela, who was recently freed from prison. Her mania escalates when she meets her teenage daughter Eliza’s African-Canadian boyfriend Mike (Vlad Alexis). The Movie Gourmet called LUNE “an astonishingly authentic exploration of bipolar disorder” and asked co-director Armour-Ostroff what drew her to that topic? She replied “My dad is Miriam. The character of Eliza is based on me.” Armour-Ostroff won the Mikki Moore Award for best narrative feature by a female director for LUNE at the 2021 Toronto Jewish Film Festival. Kimberly-Sue Murray (**Louella Simms in “Meet the Parents“) stars as Charlotte Meyers in the romantic comedy LOVE UPSTREAM. Charlotte is a writer from Chicago, and her most recent book was about how she and her fiancé Doug (Morgan David Jones) rediscovered love, but now Doug has announced that he wants out of the relationship. Since her love life advice is no longer credible, Charlotte decides to write “A City Girl’s Guide to Wilderness Survival”, and heads to the backwoods of Minnesota with a guide (Rob Wilson played by Steve Lund) who has some doubts about Charlotte’s wilderness skills. Eventually, Charlotte and Rob become aware that they have quite a lot in common. Written by Lauren Balson Carter and directed by Bill Corcoran, LOVE UPSTREAM is now streaming on UP Faith and Family.

Morgan Kelly and Kim Shaw in AS GOUDA AS IT GETS
Morgan Kelly (**Alvis Akari in 19 episodes) is Matty Lambert, CEO of Lambert Farms, in Anne De Léan‘s romantic comedy AS GOUDA AS IT GETS. Brie Belanger (Kim Shaw) runs an artisan cheese shop in Vermont and is competing in the annual state cheese festival which this year is being held in her town. Lambert Farms has won first place for five years running, so she is a bit of an underdog, but her cause is bolstered by a review from prominent cheese blogger Jack Wolfe (Clayton James). She first runs into Kelly’s character at a reception about half an hour into the movie and she (not knowing who he is) complains that his company’s bleu cheese is less than likeable (using more specific imagery). Directed by Anne De Léan, AS GOUDA AS IT GETS was filmed in Montreal, and can be streamed on the Roku Channel.

Tara Toney (Nora McLellan) awards a trophy in THE SECRET SAUCE
Nora McLellan (**Bellus Haardy in 7 KILLJOYS episodes) will be Tara Toney and Tori Anderson (Sabine in “Heart-Shaped Box“) stars as Laura Glickman in Philippe Gagnon‘s romantic comedy THE SECRET SAUCE. Glickman, the Marketing Director for the largest condiment producer in Chicago, discovers that J&P’s, a small-town barbecue joint, has a large social media following and decides that her company should license and market J&P’s secret BBQ sauce. J&P’s charming owner Jim Covell (Cory Sevier), who is accustomed to doing things his own way, resists cooperating with Glickman. With the yearly barbecue cook-off just one week away, Glickman, who has trouble adapting to the slow-paced life in a small town, needs to resolve her differences with Covell before the competition. THE SECRET SAUCE was written by Tatiana Krokar, and filmed in Montreal. It can be streamed on the Roku Channel.
Sarah Power (**Pawter Simms in 15 episodes) stars as risk management analyst Ann Keller in Éric Tessier’s romantic comedy WHEN LOVE BLOOMS. Returning to her hometown after her father is injured in a minor accident, Ann discovers that her dad has secretly become a competitive flower arranger. He was preparing to compete in an event called the “Botanic Cup”, but his injuries prevent him from doing that, so, taking advantage of a loophole in the contest rules, Ann enlists the help of charming local florist Aaron Blum (Thomas Cadrot) to help her compete on behalf her dad. Working together, Ann and Aaron become close. Written by Jack Waz, and filmed in Montreal, WHEN LOVE BLOOMS can be streamed on TUBI.
Prince Amponsah (**Havigan in “A Skinner, Darkly“) will be August, a member of The Traveling Symphony and one of Kirsten’s oldest friends, in the upcoming science fiction miniseries STATION ELEVEN. The ten-episode series is based on the 2014 novel by Emily St.John Mandel about a fictional catastrophic swine flu epidemic (the Georgian Flu). MacKenzie Davis stars as Kristen, a member of a traveling Shakespearean theatre troupe that travels through the the Great Lakes area performing in the post-collapse settlements there. Kristen has preserved a copy of a pre-apocalypse comic book called Station Eleven hence the title of the book and series. Directed by Hiro Murai, STATION ELEVEN is streaming on Max.
Lina Roessler (**Tania in “Shaft“) is bakery owner Adalina in Brent Cote’s crime drama TAINTED. Lance (Alan Von Sprang) is an ex-con with ties to the Aryan Brotherhood. He just got out of prison after 15 years inside for crimes related to being an enforcer for the Russian mob in an unspecified Canadian city, but before he can retire to a quiet life, Adelina’s husband, mid-level mobster Gregor (John Ralston) is ordered to kill him, and that is a task that turns out to be more difficult than expected. Sarah Waisglass (Quin in “The Hullen Have Eyes“) appears in the film as Lance’s neighbour Anna, who sings for a living. TAINTED can be streamed on TUBI.
