What the Cast of The Expanse is Doing Now
Steven Strait (James Holden, captain of the Rocinante) is Dylan in BODY LANGUAGE, which stars Christina Milian as Mariana, Director of Personnel for a major security firm. After her engagement to Nick (Gregg Wayans) is announced, her fiance’s mysterious friend from college (Strait) visits to cook a celebratory dinner. Mariana excels at reading people, and, as the evening progresses, she realizes that something is very wrong, and the situation rapidly evolves into a fight for her own survival. Directed by Cory Miller, BODY LANGUAGE premiered at Screamfest 2024.
Strait will also be former rock star Chris Sadowski in Rob Alicia‘s upcoming science fiction thriller SERENA. A desperate CEO commissions a tech engineer (Holly Charita played by Ashleigh Murray) to build her a cutting-edge AI engine, but it must be tested before implementation. Down-on-his-luck Chris Sadowski is one of the testers, and discovers that a chatbot who calls herself ‘Serena’ (voiced by Andi Matichak) is a cleverly disguised weapon of destruction. SERENA is currently in production in New York City.
Dominique Tipper (Naomi Nagata, the Rocinante’s XO) is Moses’ wife Zipporah in TESTAMENT: THE STORY OF MOSES, a three-episode documentary that covers highlights of the prophet’s life. Val M. wrote in The Review Geek: “The 3-part docuseries narrates the story of the Hebrew prophet Moses, touching on his origin and leadership in the exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt, and his deliverance of the Ten Commandments to his followers. The show uses dramatization of the Biblical scriptures and presents characters mentioned in the Bible in a fictional sense. However, what makes the show fall into the documentary category is the commentary from religious leaders from Islam and Christianity.” THE STORY OF MOSES can be streamed on Netflix.

Alex Kamal with Martian Navy Lt. Emily Babbage (Lara Jean Chorostecki)
Cas Anvar (Alex Kamal, pilot of the Rocinante) is Farouk in the romantic-but-dark comedy FOREIGN TONGUE. Kimberly-Sue Murray stars as Kathy, a disillusioned woman who wakes one morning with Foreign Accent Syndrome, and begins speaking with a thick Bosnian accent. Sarajevo-born director and cinematographer Boris Mojsovski told Melanie Goodfellow of Deadline: I’ve lived so many of Kathy’s emotional beats: the miscommunications, the invisibility, the quiet isolation, bt instead of dramatizing them with bitterness, I wanted to explore them with surreal humour, empathy, and lyrical absurdity.” FOREIGN TONGUE completed filming in North Bay, Ontario earlier this year.
Frankie Adams (Roberta Draper, Gunnery Sergeant – Martian Marines) will be Moana’s mother Sina in MOANA, a live-action adaptation of the 2016 Disney animation. (Sina was voiced by Nicole Scherzinger in the original film.) Moana is also the daughter of Chief Tui, and is tasked with returning the heart of the Goddess of Nature which had been stolen a thousand years previously by Maui, shape-shifting demigod of the wind and sea. Directed by Thomas Kail, and written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, MOANA will be released on 10 July 2026.
Shawn Doyle (Sadavir Errinwright, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations) is Murray Chadwick in YOUNGBLOOD, a reboot of Peter Markle’s 1986 movie of the same name. This film, directed by Hubert Davis, follows hockey prodigy Dean Youngblood as he deals with toxic behaviour both on the ice and within himself to fulfill his potential as a professional hockey player.
Asked how the film would honour the memory of Charles Officer (who co-wrote the screenplay and was originally scheduled to direct, but died in 2023), director Davis told a TIFF interviewer: “…there’s the film that existed in the ’80s, and then there was the re-imagining that Charles started the process of creating, a version of that…In the original film, the player doesn’t know how to fight, and then there’s that training sequence, like in a lot of those ’80s movies, right at the end. He learns how to fight, beats up the bully, and gets the girl—and that’s the whole thing. I think what Charles wanted to do with this script was invert that idea.” YOUNGBLOOD premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
Wes Chatham (Amos Burton, Rocinante ship’s mechanic) is Jack in SQUEALER, a horror film inspired by real events. A social worker named Lisa (played by Danielle Brugio, who also co-wrote the script) investigates the disappearances of young women with the help of Jack, a policeman who is also her former boyfriend. Clues lead them to a pig farm run by local butcher Theodore (Ronnie Gene Blevins). Directed by Andy Armstrong, SQUEALER can be streamed on MovieSphere+ (via Amazon Prime Video).
Chatham is also Alex in HOTEL TEHRAN, a film about a group of disgraced, ex-CIA operators who are disillusioned by the end of the war in Afghanistan. Tucker (Zachary Levi) is the leader of the group, and Lara Wolf is Maryam, a journalist who has spent the last five years in an Iranian prison. Filmed in Budapest, Hungary, and Jackson, Mississippi, HOTEL TEHRAN is currently in post-production.
