What the Van Helsing Cast is Doing Now
Tricia Helfer (Dracula in 9 episodes) is Gloria in THE GREAT SALISH HEIST, the story of Steve Joe (Darrell Dennis), an archeologist nearing rock bottom who believes he can stop the downward trajectory of his life by reclaiming the artefacts of the (fictional) Moquahat people from the local museum. Said artefacts are part of a First Nations exhibition scheduled to tour Europe. Steve puts together a team of burglars to rescue the relics from this ignominious fate. Producer Leslie Bland told Courtney Dickson of CBC: “What’s great about this film is you’re seeing Indigenous people having agency. There’s no white saviour in this film. They take charge of their own issue.” THE GREAT SALISH HEIST had its US premiere at the 2024 Global Stage Hollywood Film Festival.
Jesse Stanley (Bathory in 8 episodes – The Oracle in 16 episodes) is Tal in RAF, a dark comedy written and directed by Harry Cepka. Raf (Grace Glowicki) who works two jobs and spends her free time playing boardgames with her boyfriend’s roommates, meets and becomes infatuated with the rich and charismatic Tal. The relationship makes Raf begin to see herself in a new and different light, but when she visits Tal’s home in the country, the limitations of that relationship become apparent. Raf is currently not available for streaming.
Stanley is also Amy Lauder, elder sister of Harold Lauder (Owen Teague) and former classmate of Frannie Goldsmith (Odessa Young) in Ben Cavil and Josh Boone‘s TV adaptation of THE STAND by Stephen King. Luvia Petersen (Sergeant Weathers in 4 Van Helsing episodes) is also in the cast. THE STAND can be streamed on Paramount+.
Rukiya Bernard (Doctor Sarah Carol in 28 episodes) is pub proprietor Lena in FLOAT, Sherren Lee’s adaptation of Kate Merchant’s 2022 novel. Instead of taking a summer job her parents arranged for her, med student Waverly (Andrea Bang) makes an impulsive detour to a small Canadian town to visit her aunt (Michelle Krusiec). When she almost drowns at a beach party she meets lifeguard Blake (Robbie Amell), and after Blake offers to teach her to swim, the two find themselves falling in love. Sarah Desjardins (Catherine in 4 Van Helsing episodes) appears in the film as Blake’s sister Isabel. FLOAT can be streamed on TUBI.
Christopher Heyerdahl (Sam in 27 episodes) is Fredrik P Jensen in Robert Budreau‘s horror folktale QUEEN OF BONES. In 1931 Oregon, 14-year-old twins Lillian (Julia Butters) and Samuel (Jacob Tremblay) have been told their mother died in childbirth, but have come to doubt that. They suspect their father, violin maker Malcolm (Martin Freeman), is hiding secrets about their deceased mother’s connection with the supernatural. Written by Michael Burgner, QUEEN OF BONES premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, and can be purchased from Amazon Prime Video.

Heyerdahl is also Chief Bagan in THE BOY IN THE WOODS, a film based on the memoir by Canadian Holocaust survivor Maxwell Smart. The true-life survival tale is told from the perspective of Max (Jett Klyne), a Jewish boy hiding and being hunted in the forests of Eastern Europe during World War II. Directed by Rebecca Snow, who also directed the 2019 documentary Cheating Hitler: Surviving the Holocaust, THE BOY IN THE WOODS can be streamed on TUBI, and is available on Blu-ray.
Jonathan Scarfe (Axel Miller in 49 episodes) is car mechanic Grant in DISAPPEARANCE IN YELLOWSTONE, a thriller directed by Tony Dean Smith. Lucie Guest stars as Jessie Gephart, a mother fleeing her abusive ex-husband. Jessie hasn’t told her daughter Michelle (Cassandra Sawtell) the truth about her father, so Michelle doesn’t know why they’re running and resents her mother for disrupting her life. When their car breaks down in Yellowstone National Park, Jesse leaves to get help, but when she returns to the car with Grant, Michelle is nowhere to be found. Since Michelle’s dad has reported her missing, Jessie and Grant must locate Michelle without help from the police. DISAPPEARANCE IN YELLOWSTONE can be streamed on Fawesome TV.
Hilary Jardine (Susan Jackson in 15 episodes) is Lizzy in BLIND DATE BOOK CLUB, a romantic comedy about bookstore owner Meg Tompkins (Erin Krakow) who runs a book club called “Blind Date With a Book”. Meg finds a new purpose in life after she agrees to review the latest novel from Graham Sterling (Robert Buckley), whose publisher has refused to consider the book because it’s a historical romance and not the Young Adult fiction he usually writes. BLIND DATE BOOK CLUB airs on The Hallmark Channel in the US, and on the W Network in Canada.
Jardine is also Stacey in ONE BAD APPLE: A HANNAH SWENSON MYSTERY. The ninth mystery in the series has Hannah (Alison Sweeney) teaching a baking class. After her equipment is tampered with, the resulting explosion is ruled an accident, but then a colleague is found dead and Hannah believes it’s murder. ONE BAD APPLE airs on Hallmark Mystery in the US.
Vincent Gale (Phil Fleischman aka ‘Flesh’ in 28 episodes) is Nicholas in the George Erschbamer horror thriller RESURRECTION FACTOR. Nicholas and fellow scientist Jules (Aaron Pearl) create an immortality drug called Eterna, but the process of creating the drug also created psychotic, sometimes telepathic, mutant humans. To conceal this, Nicholas burned down the lab with Jules and all the unfortunate mutants inside, but Jules and other experimental victims took enough Eterna to survive the fire, and years later, they return for revenge. RESURRECTION FACTOR premiered last December at the Dunbar Theatre in Vancouver.
