Sarah Catherine Hook and Charlene Amoia in THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT
Sarah Catherine Hook (Juliette Fairmont) will be Caroline Merteuil in the upcoming Amazon Prime series CRUEL INTENTIONS. Writers Phoebe Fisher and Sarah Goodman have re-imagined the story of two ruthless step siblings, originally told in Roger Kumble’s 1999 film. In the new series, Caroline and her step-brother Lucien (Zac Burgess) are part of the Greek Life hierarchy at an elite District of Columbia college. After a scandalously brutal hazing incident, Caroline and Lucien plot to preserve their influence, and their scheme might include plans for Lucien to seduce the daughter of the American Vice-President. Production is currently underway in Toronto.

Hook will also be Happy Klein, first mate on a tourist schooner, in James Khanlarian‘s adaptation of THE GHOST TRAP, a novel by K. Stephens. The book tells the story of ninth-generation lobster fisherman Jamie Eugley (Zach Steiner) whose fiance Anja (Greer Grammar) is slowly recovering from a brain injury suffered in a boating accident. While caring for Anja, Jamie must deal with the local lobstermen’s violent “trap war”, He must also cope with a developing romantic involvement with Happy, who wants him to return to Key West with her. THE GHOST TRAP has completed production in Rockland, Maine.

Imani Lewis (Calliope Burns) will star as Spirit Anderson in FREE, a film by Eboni Price. Spirit is a high school senior with a knack for the English language, but rapping (her favourite extracurricular activity) isn’t always compatible with her studies. At home, she must cope with her father’s abuse, and has always seen college as her ticket away from that turmoil. Then, a different sort of opportunity comes her way. FREE was ilmed in Atlanta, Georgia. No release date has been announced.
Lewis is also Charmaine Grasa, niece of drug boss Wayne Grasa (Craig muMs Grant) in 13 episodes of HIGHTOWN, a crime drama created by Rebecca Perry Cutter and set in Massachusetts. The story follows the adventures of National Marine Fisheries Service agent Jackie Quiรฑones (Monica Raymund) and the Cape Cod Interagency Narcotics Unit. In the show’s second season, Charmaine takes over her uncle’s empire after he goes to prison. All episodes of HIGHTOWN can be streamed on STARZ.

Elizabeth Mitchell and Matilda Lawler in THE SANTA CLAUSES – EPISODE TWO
Elizabeth Mitchell (Margot Fairmont) is Abby’s mother Tish in WHEN TIME GOT LOUDER, a film by Connie Coccia about the impact autism has on both siblings and parents. When she leaves for college, Abbie Peterson (Willow Shields) leaves behind her brother Kayden (Jonathan Michael Simao), who is non-verbal and has autism. When Abbie returns home for the holidays she discovers Kayden is in hospital and the family is in crisis. All of the licensed music in the film is from the autism and LGBTQ+ communities. (Playlist on YouTube.) WHEN TIME GOT LOUDER premiered at the 2022 Frameline Film Festival and can be streamed on TUBI.
Mitchell is also Vera Kipler in the sci-fi comedy ALIENS ABDUCTED MY PARENTS (and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out). Aspiring journalist Itsy Levan (Emma Tremblay) is new in town, and her new neighbour, Calvin Kipler (Jacob Buster), subscribes to the curious belief that his parents, Vera and Cyrus (Will Forte) were abducted by aliens ten years ago. Austin Everett, who wrote the screenplay, told Tamara Jones of Collider: “…it’s about a boy who believes he saw his parents get abducted by aliens, and he’s not even mad about it. He’s just kind of bummed that they didn’t take him with him. And then in walks Itsy, this girl from the big city, who meets this boy, and they share this similar want, which is to get out of this small town and go and do something else.” The film premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The film can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
Polly Draper (Davina) will be Gail Duffy, mother of Jake and Pete, in the coming-of-age drama LITTLE BROTHER. Jake is driving his older brother Pete Duffy home to Seattle (from Albuquerque) for a family intervention after Pete’s most recent suicide attempt. While on the drive, and with the help of others they meet on the way, the two brothers struggle to come to terms with the past and with one another.
Dom Fisher writing for Geek Vibes Nation, said “The emotion-filled performances of Daniel Diemer and Philip Ettinger make this road trip drama hit home…Not only do they capture the organic nature of a sibling relationship but their delivery and understanding of the task at hand drives the emotional aspect over the top.” Written and directed by Sheridan O’Donnell, and filmed largely in Albuquerque, New Mexico, LITTLE BROTHER premiered at the 2023 Atlanta Film Festival. No release date has been announced.
Gisette Valentin (Officer Garvey in “First Goodbye”) has an as-yet-unspecified role in ORIGIN, Ana DuVernay‘s adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson‘s historical study of American racism, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, which links the caste systems of America, India, and Nazi Germany, and documents how the Nazis studied racial systems in America to plan their campaign against the Jews. ORIGIN is available from most VOD services, and will be released on Blu-ray on 11 July 2024.
Maddison Bullock (Eve in “First Fight”) is Ann Minors in FROM PARADISE WITH LOVE, a romantic comedy about an ornithologist (Phillip Boyd) and and a journalist (Brooke Burfitt) who travel to Saint Lucia in an effort to confirm the rediscovery of an extinct parrot species that is said to only reveal itself in the presence of true love. (He is hoping to debunk the sighting, and she kind of hopes it is real.) According to the Coconut Bay Resort in St. Lucia (where filming was recently completed). YouTube has a trailer.
